Dumpling Festival 2009

Do you miss the Ah-Kongs and Ah-Mas in Moral Home? Yes, I do! When a few of us arrived at the home at about 1:30pm, a few of the elderly who idled around suddenly have their smiling faces on! Some asked if they can gamble and play chess. Their hands ‘itched’ a lot and can’t wait for the stalls to get ready. A few even questioned why some of us disappeared for weeks. They miss us! They miss our noise!

A dozen of us arrived by 2pm for the TINY Dumpling Festival Celebration. It was an unusual event – super low key as we only sang songs, play mahjong, ban-luck and served them with home-made dumplings made by Aunty Molly. Initial plan was to have games, music, decor, performance by external groups. Looking at the uncertain recovery of the entire virus outbreak situation, the ‘celebration’ became a normal weekly activity. Volunteer group size to help out was also kept small. Feel very bad for it but I hope you understand the situation.

Mr Mok started off with song of the day ‘Sio Ba Zhang’ when the rest of us served the dumplings. Together in the 2.5hours of concert were Susan, Uncle Song and Jojo but they were never tired….they are really the Moral Home Superstars! There weren’t many things to take pictures of on that day but Poh Yan has never failed, fulfilling his role as a photographer. Thanks for running around to take nice shots.

Though it was only a dozen of us, moral angels’ team spirit is always glowing. We were all engaged in feeding the elderly including those upstairs. We did a lot of befriending than usual. For those angels who cannot join us that day, don’t worry…your beloved Ah Kongs and Ah Mas were well taken of. We spread our LAUGHTER, our CARE by ensuring that the elderly were well-fed, had enough of music, gambling and of course chit-chatting with us!

What touches me and admire most is the close bonding of moral angels. It’s like a ‘family’ kind of gathering whenever I see them.

JX, Yen, Uncle Song, Mr Mok, Susan, Jojo, Hui Quan, SK, Shu Hua, Poh Yan, Gary, Desmond, Min Yuet – your presence has brought JOY to the elderly!

Thanks Rico for all the advices given. Really appreciate it! Thanks Aunty Molly for your tremendous effort for preparing the 120+ dumplings!

For angels who cannot join us: Your care and concern is also felt by Ah Kongs and Ah Mas.

P.S. Sat activity for the next few weeks – Group size is still kept small, about 10+.

    Hello Angels,
How have you Angels been for the past 3 Saturdays afternoon? Resting well at home? Enjoying a short getaway somewhere esle? Busy doing this and that? Trying hard to keep yourself occupied? Or being “irresponsibly disobedient” angels who went MH to disturb the ah kongs ah mas still? :)

This influenza A epidemic reminded me the similar-SARS which happened a few years back. SARS was even worst, as in, strictly NO VOLUNTEERS are allowed MH for more than a couple of months(if i remembered correctly)…that was bad and torturing to some angels… :(

Anyways, let me give you a “condensed”-3 weeks flash…

2 May-Roti Kopi Corner cancelled : A few angels were there to do some befriending, feeding and singing…

After knowing the cancellation of Sat activity:
Some Angels started smsing one another saying “huh? no service…”; “i”m all planned for the Roti Kopi corner…”; “what am i supposed to do on Sat afternoon then…”
——– a sense of “lost” was strongly felt

    At the Home:
Ah Kongs Ah Mas were asking “how come you all come so late? have been waiting and waiting and didnt see you volunteers…”; “oh, where is my kaya roti and kopi huh?”; “why u all cant come to visit us next week? what swine flu?”…
——- a sense of missing and disappoinment was perceived

    9 May
An extremely quiet sat afternoon at MH with Ah Kongs Ah Mas asking the similar questions when saw some of us… :( feeling “helpless” :/ what can you do but to respect the Home management”s decision as it”s ultimately for the health sake of the elderly ya??

    16 May
At the gate of MH, some music and singing is heard :) As approached closer to the Home, “washing” of mahjong tiles is heard :p oh no!!! these disobedient angels quietly set up the sound system, the mahjong game and the gambling corner!!!! shhhhhhh… pray hard nothing happened to the elderly 😛 (yes, the mahjong tiles are disinfected before and after…thanks angel ;D)

Coming 23 May– A TINY Dumpling Festival Celebration
If influenza A situation remains unchanged and with Matron”s approval, we will just serve the elderly with Auntie Molly”s dumplings and sing them some songs at the dinning area. But due to the relatively stringent rules imposed by MH, Im afraid that we could only allow about a dozen angels to be at MH, serving dumplings and singing ;( so pls do confirmed attendance with the organisers (Shermin-98271036 & Shermin”s asisstant-98718477) Appreciated it really! :)

Angels who are helping please be at MH ard 2pm or slight earlier as you”ll need to GENUINELY fill up a form and take temperature. Oh, pls come in a “piggy printed” T-shirt if possible 😛 haha okok just kidding!

P.S. Really if you are phisically unwell, do DO NOT appear…we understand :) thank u very much!!

    Smile always,

    Hi angels,

it’s been an eventful week in SG, isn’t it? Swine Flu, AWARE, Mas Selamat. And they say SG is a boring place.

Here is the latest update from Moral Home. They are still having temperature check, and still discourage visitors. The good news is things may be back to normal in the coming days, considering the lowering of the alert status by MOH. FYI, CMH has already lifted their ban on visitors.

Hopefully our weekly activities can resume next Sat (16/5), and we can go ahead with the Dumpling Festival. Although it might be postponed to 30/5 due to insufficient preparation.

Having said that, I know many of us can’t wait to get back in action. If you really miss the Ah Kong Ah Ma, you can still visit them, in your own capacity. We will try to stay low key, as advised by the Matron.

    Have a great Vesak Day!

  • Ubin Cycling Trip

1st of May (Labour Day)-A NORMAL sunny day

What a beautiful day! Wait wait wait Uncle Song, 600g is not here yet…Jojo, you are late AGAIN!! =) Wa! Desmond, Eisa, Barbie, Yen, JX, Gary, Alex, Rico, Uncles Song & Yeo are waiting for you!!! Hey, my honey* and luvy** are at Changi village waiting…for me you know!!! 😛

Yeah!! after a nice breakfast, alright angels, time to take bumbumboat to Pulau Ubin!

Having reached Ubin around 10am, Uncle Song cant wait to go on a roMENtic walk with Uncle Meng Huat and decided a “help yourself” attitude and abandoned we angels at the island-“See you guys here at 1pm!” Okok…then we went on ourselves to pick our ‘vehicles’. Guess what? Jojo and Barbie can cycle but DON’T know how to balance?!!! Wow…impressive…what to do, but some super kind angels would have to do a doubling with these pathetic gals :) who? but the super fit and steady Ricola ‘lonbanging’ Barbie willingly while our super cute and handsome HuiHui taking Jojo…of course ‘unwillingly’.

We cycled here, cycled there…cycled up the slope with some angels busy pushing their two wheels up the slope 😛 …then we cycled here again and cycled there again…then our super sweet and brilliant HuiHui brought us to the ‘peak’ where you could view the quarry. Look look look Uncles Song & Yeo are there XXXYYYZZ (hahaha…cant revealed…secret between us :P)

There came a resting break where we had some self-served cold drinks seeing how angels performed their ‘defleshing’ coconut skill!! :p

After which, we decided to paddle our way to the temple…hmm interesting, there is quite a few different ‘gods’ to worship. Before heading back, we took a ride to the beach, standing there smelling some strange stupid odour. Ohhh the smell is from our VL! Uncle, ‘toh-long’ la, PLEASE don’t use that that that kind of spray anymore 😛

Soon after we ended our cycling trip, met up with the two old men and said bye bye to Ubin. Of course, we wrapped up the half day tour with a nice lunch at Changi Terminal 3 food court! :)

*HuiHui & **Poh Yan (fyi new angels :P)
Jojo has successfully gotten close to HuiHui (just curious, don’t be scared, did you feel some1 hugging of touching your waist while doing the doubling with Jojo???)
Thanks Jojo, the uncle at the bicycle kiosk has to really ‘pump’ in more air to the rear tyre due to…okok you have slimmed down but still… 😛

For those angels who have to work or can’t make it this time round, worry not, the welfare committee have many other activities planned ahead for you! Right? Uncle Song and ShuHua? Hehe 😉

    Smile always,
    😛 AVL R
